    St. James Parish Church is the oldest church in Barbados. It was constructed near the site where the first English settlers landed on the island on 17th February, On that day, eighty settlers and ten slaves arrived to take occupation and to settle the island of this is a gorgeous church /5(). St James', the parish church of Hill stands on Mere Green Road. It is a church in two distinct parts and the work of two Birmingham architects. The original small church was designed by Daniel Rollinson Hill in in a simple gothic style.
